Goodbye, Rowdy. Thanks for the invite. I’ll see if can get a flight to Freedom.” They hung up and Cheyenne called Southwest Airlines and booked a flight to Freedom.
Wild thoughts raced through her mind. Cheyenne couldn’t wait to see Rowdy again. She wished she could leave right away. There was no chance that Ryan would be coming home. Cheyenne wouldn’t take him back anyway, even if he begged her on bent knee. Cheyenne felt in her heart that Rowdy was the man for her. He would help her get over a cheating husband. Cheyenne prayed. Lord, Jesus, it will be easier to get through the divorce with a supportive man like Rowdy in my life. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
Cheyenne was grateful that Katie had agreed to spend Christmas Eve with her. They sat together for hours in the hot tub as the northern lights and shooting stars moved across the cloudless sky. It was freezing cold outside. There was snow on the ground. The hot tub was warm and comforting. They drank wine and stayed up half the night discussing the way their respective lives had turned out.
Cheyenne was still adjusting to the fact that Ryan was gone. “I'd never imagined Ryan and I would ever divorce. I thought we'd be married forever.”
“Forget Ryan. He's the loser in this deal. You can do better. I’m not sure about this Rowdy character though. He’s not your type. Would you honestly be willing to give all this up for a cowboy?” Katie looked around at their lovely surroundings. She was concerned that Cheyenne was too impulsive.
“I’m not sure, but I’ll find out soon. I’m going to Freedom for New Year’s.” The tone of Cheyenne’s voice showed that she was excited and ready to move forward.
The snow came down in large flakes as Cheyenne packed for her trip to Freedom a few days later. She wondered if she’d lost her ever-loving mind. Cheyenne was concerned about what her daughters would say if they knew she was rushing off to meet a cowboy in a place called Freedom. They had called during Christmas week to give her support and guidance. Cheyenne doubted that Ryan would believe she’d behave so impulsively. She thought. To heck with Ryan.
